Journalism Students Win Big at
Flower Mound Meet

The writers whose articles you read each week showed that they can hold their own with bigger schools in the area. Journalism students Keegan Farley, Katelyn Woods, Krissy Boxell and Lindsey Allen competed against 3A writers from Argyle and Decatur in the Flower Mound UIL Invitational meet on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Keegan Farley won 1st place in the Feature Writing event with an article about an inspirational coach. Katelyn Woods won 1st place in News Writing with her article about a new security system at a school. Krissy Boxell won 1st place with her editorial about a new graduation plan for a school in Editorial Writing. Lindsey Allen tied for 3rd place in Headline Writing and received the 4th place trophy after a tie breaker was applied.

This was the first practice meet for the journalism team. The next event will be the Denton Ryan Invitational in February where these four will again compete against 3A, 2A and 1A schools in the small school division. Additional writers will join them as the team prepares to make a strong standing at the district meet after spring break.
