Varsity Boys Still on Top
By Krissy Boxell
January 22, 2008

Going into the Krum-Ponder standoff on Friday, Jan. 18, both teams were undefeated and hoping for bragging rights. After a victory over the Bobcats, the Lions are now in 1st place in the district standings.

With a packed gym, full of energetic fans from both towns, the Lions started the game strong and kept the lead throughout the entire game. Various players stepped up, raining three pointers, dominating on defense and bringing intensity to the floor. The game ended with a score of 57-44, sending the Bobcats home crying.

This week, the Lions will have to win on the road playing Leonard on Tuesday and Melissa on Friday.

By Lindsey Allen
January 22, 2008

The district tournament for the 9th/10th grade boys began Friday, Jan. 18. The basketball team was in the mood to win and show their skills on the court, starting with the first game, against Krum. The Lions pulled through with a close victory and beat the Bobcats 66-60 for another district win. The following day, Ponder defeated Leonard 59-21 and dominated Melissa 53-27.

Giving their all each game helped the Lions stay undefeated in the tournament and come home with the championship trophy. The successful team includes freshmen Robert Davenport, Cameron Chapman, Chris Bean, Chase Cox and Daniel Barber and sophomores Jarryd Shirley, Zach Hendrix, Wade Ford, Christian Parker, Miles Johnson and Caleb Meek.

On Jan. 22 the 9th/10th grade team will play Leonard once more, in Leonard. The boys will also strive to control the court yet again when they face Melissa on Jan. 25, in Melissa.

Ponder Rodeo a Success
By Keegan Farley
January 22, 1008

Horses, calves and cowboy hats are what made up this week's rodeo, held by the Ponder Rodeo Team. The cowboys and cowgirls endured the cold and competed in several different events. Numerous volunteers from Ponder helped contribute to the success of the rodeo by working the concession stands, holding a silent auction and helping to run the rodeo itself. The Ponder Volunteer Fire Department also lended a hand by serving as paramedics during the rodeo events. To also aid the Ponder Rodeo Team’s funds, they are selling
t-shirts for $13.00.

The results for the rodeo are as follows:

Sophomore Taylor Stout placed 1st in Calf Roping and 2nd in Ribbon Roping.

Senior Lane Loiselle placed 7th in Calf Roping and 5th in Ribbon Roping.

Senior Ryan Lyles placed 3rd in Shoot Dogging and 5th in Steer Wrestling.

The Game Plan
By Ashley Laughlin
January 22, 2008

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shows a different side of his character and proves that he has real acting skill in last years hit, The Game Plan. Johnson plays Joe Kingman, an NFL quarterback who is at the height of his career. Unexpectedly, Joe gets a visit from his 8 year old daughter Peyton, played by Madison Pettis, whom he previously had no knowledge of, the product of a previous relationship. Annoyed at first, the relationship between them began to grow and he found out that having her in his life may not be so bad after all. He has to put his fast paced plans and his hardcore football behind his number one priority, his daughter.

The Game Plan is a feel-good family movie with a surprisingly good story line. Out on DVD today, it is well worth your while.
