Ponder Lions - Playoff Ready

For the second year in a row, the varsity boys’ basketball team has earned the title of District Champions. The Lions boast an undefeated district record of 14-0.

In the last game of the season, the Lions faced rival Krum at home and defeated them 42-29.

Thus far, the Lions have had a very successful season. They won both the Ponder and Dublin Tournaments, have an overall record of 28-5 and, as previously mentioned, won their district with a flawless record.

“We have done really well so far this season,” sophomore Jesus Lujan said. “We just have to keep it going and keep working hard.”

Now it is playoffs time. To get ready for playoffs, the varsity boys played a warm-up game on Feb. 17 against Clyde-Eula at 1:00 at Nolan High School in Fort Worth and defeated them.

Because they won their district, the boys will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Lions will face the winner of the bi-district playoff game against Clarksville and Alba-Golden, who will play Wednesday night, in the area playoff game sometime later this week.

“We gotta keep up the momentum if we wanna go far in the playoffs,” senior William Stanton said. “We just have to keep working hard ‘cause we have got the talent.”
