Juno
By Kaleb Broadstreet
Teen pregnancy is usually not something that is joked about on television or in movies. However, in the smash hit comedy Juno, teen pregnancy is looked on with a different light.
Juno MacGuff is a high school student who, during her junior year, becomes impregnated by her boyfriend Paulie Bleeker. Juno then decides to give the baby to a couple that seems to be perfect. But as the months go by, she has to decide if giving up the baby is what she really wants for herself and for her baby.
All the characters are great in this movie, but what really makes Juno special is that the script, written by first time screenwriter Diablo Cody, is hilarious. The script has tons of one liners that are really funny. It has the same kind of humor as Napoleon Dynamite. It has many quotable lines like Napoleon Dynamite as well.
Juno has a pretty simple story line, but it is far from a simple comedy. Ellen Page plays the character Juno, and she is absolutely perfect for the role. She plays the role so well that you can’t imagine anyone else playing the character but her.
Ellen Page is not the only funny actor in the film. Michael Cera, most known for his role as Evan in “Superbad,” gives a funny performance as Paulie Bleeker. The one actor that really stands out in this movie though is J. K. Simmons. He plays Juno’s father and his straight to the point humor gives the movie an extra boost.
Overall though, the thing about the movie that shines is the clever script. If you’re a fan of comedies, then “Juno” is definitely a must see.
