Softball Playoffs:
Lady Lions Defeat
Blooming Grove
Lady Lions
in Regional Quarterfinal Series
By Brittany Schmitz
The Lady Lions advanced to the Regional Semi-finals by defeating the Blooming Grove Lady Lions in two games. The first game was a nail-biter as the Lady Lions stretched the game to an eleventh inning. Wanda Malone pitched an eleven inning shutout. After 10 innings of no Ponder runs, Tara Prather got a base hit with one out in the bottom of the 11th. Keeley Woods got a bunt down to put two on base with lead-off batter and sister Katelyn Woods coming up. Katelyn continued her clutch hitting with a shot to center field to bring in Prather, giving Ponder the win with a score of 1-0.
The second game was not much of a struggle as the Lady Lions bats lit up, and they won with a score of 8-1.
“The last two games were much better, they were better prepared,” Coach Wells said about the Lady Lions performance.
The Lady Lions Softball Team will take on Troy Friday night at 7 pm at Crowley High School. The game is the first of a three game series against the defending state-runner ups, and the team that eliminated the Lady Lions in last years’ playoffs. Game two will take place Saturday, May 20 at 1 pm, and game three, if necessary, will follow.
“I’m pulling for these series, because I feel we are a better team than the other guys,” Coach Wells commented on the three game series.

We know that it would be more fun to listen to each song - but we would be breaking too many copyright laws if we did that!!!
