Cinco De Mayo Celebrated on Quatro De Mayo
By Kari Routh

Ponder ISD held a Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Thursday, May 4th, in the junior high gym. Ponder students and their families attended the event to commemorate the day that the Mexican army defeated the French at The Battle of Puebla in 1862 and to celebrate Mexican culture.

At the celebration, students of all ages performed dances. Students and their families also enjoyed a variety of traditional Mexican dishes. There were homemade tamales, enchiladas, burritos, queso, rice, beans, and a variety of desserts. Then, the younger children played games, like sack races, musical chairs, and pin the tail on the donkey, and broke candy-filled piñatas.

The school also made a float for the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Denton on Saturday, May 6th. The float won "Most Spirited" and received a plaque.
